Microsoft Bing – The Future of Search?

May 30th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Search Engine Marketing

Admittedly, I am not a fan of Microsoft especially when it comes to scalability and realibility (not to mention the $$$ they snatch away from Microsoft dependent companies).

So why I am talking about Microsoft now? Maybe you have heard of Kumo which has been long awaited by many search engine marketers like me since Bill and his marketing smarts say that it is the best search engine so far that can match Google (I doubt).  But since it has taken them too long (huhum), they renamed it as “BING“.  Why BING? I dunno. :P

Anyways, this Microsoft Bing search engine would definitely have yet to earn its respect from most of us especially on Search Engine Marketing (SEM) practitioners.

Personally, the MSN search engine did not live to my expectations  because of its lame functionality. It is just that it made it as one of the top 3 SEs simply of the Microsoft saucy marketing strategy but without, it is nothing.

I am sorry for those Microsoft fans out there. This is just my personal opinion.

Wolfram Alpha – Making systematic knowledge computable!

May 30th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Knowledge Engine

Of course, you have heard of “search engine” and pretty well, you can relate to Google, Yahoo, MSN and other search engines out there. I always love how the search engines have given us immense information and data when we want it at that. Information sources generated in milliseconds are returned back to us as links. Clickable and readable. Easy and quick. Hey, I remember Sharon Stone’s movie with the word, quick. The quick and the dead, Is that it? Oh well, that is not related to the topic anyway. :-) wolfram

Okay, let me get this straight now. Have you heard of computational knowledge engine? Oh well, the Wolfram Alpha was created by no less than the genius himself, Stephen Wolfram – the creator of Mathematica.

What is good about Wolfram Alpha as an engine is that, it does its computation right on the spot and returns to you the result that you wanted. It is like an all-in-one sort of browser-based computing engine. So far, it is living up to the people’s expectations.

Wolfram Alpha although is not here to rival the search engines but still it is getting its wider share of attention now especially to those who wanted results up to the level of computed answers .

Try to imagine getting the answer using a Taylor’s Series? Take this lead–> Wolfram Alpha

Wolfram Alpha, Wow! You got the bulls-eye! It is a real alpha, point blank.

You are like Dwight Howard dunking the ball. :-)

Wolfram! Wolfram!

The Google Wave – A mutation of browser communication

May 30th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Internet Business

I am pretty excited on what the Google developers unveiled recently which they tagged as the Google Wave.  The idea of coming up with such innovation on how we communicate and share ideas/thoughts, objects and assets online has taken a giant leap so far.

I personally do feel that companies and IT people should particularly watch out for the release of the Google Wave because it will definitely make a big stash on your IT budget on collaboration platform which you have been using. Let me say, Google wave can make us more  productive in a sense by using it. Yes, productive!

Google Wave pushes the power of internet browsers further and beyond. It will force a mutation of browsers as it requires some objects to get it running which needs approval for W3C compliance .  It is the wave of the future at least for now!

Watch how Google wave works!

One of the top 100 blogs in the Philippine Blogosphere and et al.

I just found out today when I revisited RATIFIED.ORG that my site has already jumped from rank#32 to rank#22. This is an interesting development knowing the fact that www.garyviray.com before was nothing in terms of stats and figures needed to be included among the top 100 blogs in the Philippine Blogosphere.

Interestingly enough, My 10-year old son’s everyday computer lesson is paying off. He is making some of my garyviray.com stats to go up whether you believe it or not.

Yes, I am already teaching my son as early as now all the things I know in doing business online so that he will be better equipped a few years from now when he is already on his own. We have an unusual conversation at times being uber-geeky at some point  about IT stuffs online. Most often than not, I am always faced with uber-techie questions such as, “Hey Pa, Why are you teaching me  to ram the RSS feed? What is it for?” or “Pa, What is torrent file all-about? How does it really work?”. It maybe simple for some IT tech guys but for a kid to ask such… that is different.  Of course, Why do I have to teach him to do some “grey hands-on lessons”?! Oh! Basically, I just wanted him to realize the flaws of the system – the Internet and the Web 2.0.

Admittedly, with the emergence of the Web 2.0,  I was able to devise a system to make real money out of it.  But hey, it is not something that you see in the movies like robbing/hacking the bank or something. I was able to know and understand the flaws of the system and so far, it is working rightly for me.

Hmm… Should I not say, flaws? Should I just say, I already have a pretty damn idea on how the World Wide Web works at the background? I think that fits it even better.

Okay, Let me cut this post for now because someone is pinging my ICQ account.  Bye!

Search Engine Marketing Category Winner

May 2nd, 2009 | 3 Comments | Posted in Busby SEO Test, Search Engine Marketing

sem-philippinesgaryvirayDuring the Social Networking and eBusiness Conference 2009 @ Hotel Intercontinental Makati-Philippines, I was given an opportunity to present a few slides on how the search engine marketing efforts will be effective because I won an award on search engine marketing campaign category!

Here are as follows:

1. Right Timing is EVERYTHING.

It is a common fact that the most visited sites are those that are within the Google Traffic Triangular Spots [Hey! I am fond of this word, I just noticed. ] or in other words, these are sites that are ranking well in SERPs getting high volume of  pings and traffic.  Of course, it is a real battle out there in order to rank well especially so when the keywords are very competitive. KEIs (keyword effectivity index) and KOIs (keyword opportunity index) are oftentimes the basis of such.

Battling SEOs and SEMs on certain keywords would really agree that right TIMING on pressing the button of their arsenals is one of the keys in ranking well in SEs.

2. Content is KING.

Nothing can argue about this one. Good content is always the factor that converts and generates sales. More »
