Google says no to Keywords Meta Tag

September 24th, 2009 | 1 Comment | Posted in Search Engine Marketing

After years of speculation about the use of keywords meta tag  effect in SERP – Search Engine Rank Pages, now everything has come to light after the official declaration from Google Webmaster Central Blog that Google has not even considered such meta tag (keyword) eversince as part of their more than 200 hundred signals in ranking pages on there search result.

Matt Cutts even reiterated such non-usage of meta tag keyword by  discussing in this video.

This revelation is somehow pretty funny because I remembered that during our good old days in SEO (SEM Philippines) that we were overly concerned about this portion of our meta tag on our web pages just to get good ranking in Google.

However; As an SEM or SEO practitioner, you should still make it a point that you have the meta tag keywords intact on your web pages because on the other hand, Yahoo! is still looking for those meta tags on their search algorithm. Now in doing so, you get good ranking too in Yahoo! as well as in Bing.

Optimize the page and not the site!

baldToday, I conducted an email marketing workshop-training for a certain group of marketers who somehow are not really into using online platforms as their means of engaging to their markets. It was fun and at the same time, tiresome because it seemed that I was blabbing on a concept that they have not “bought” yet to be part of their marketing mix. There were a lot of hesitations and frustrations on their part having heard of their suggestions and comments which I found to be valid though for some.

Honestly, I am a disruptor by nature as I always try the not-so-traveled path (or never been traveled) leading to a goal that was never been achieved in the first place.  At that, I have always expected scrutinies and criticisms to a certain extent. It is normal I would say. But then, I also expected some people who somehow buy the idea because they have that natural instinct of wanting to do something new in their daily routines and of doing something worthwhile given the feasibility of such concept.

I also talked  about SEO or search engine optimization to substantiate a certain module of the workshop. Actually, it was only meant to give my audience a crude  idea of what SEO is all-about. But then the funniest thing during the seminar was all-about a certain claim of one of audiences about search engine optimization. The guy seems to be making a point not about the SEO as a subject matter but rather about his prowess in SEO (gulp!) thus the parade of what I have’s and I did’s sprouted like wildfire.

Admittedly, I was really surprised because the guy seemed to be at lost of what he has been doing all these time. I bluntly disagreed to some of his claims such as optimizing the site and not the page, we can rank number one in the keywords like  casino and poker and other ‘universal keywords” as the guy insisted. That even a  100usd budget spend can make our company’s site to rank number 1 in Google! More »

gary-viray-blogoramaLast July 6, 2009, I got some copies of the Manila Bulletin newspaper because I was featured in Blog-O-Rama Section. The article was entitled, Gary Viray on Making Money Online . It was just a simple interview actually which Annalyn would describe as “short and sweet”. Honestly, I enjoyed answering the questionnaire because it directly asked the basics of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing – SEM Philippines.

My interview was also posted online in Yahoo! Philippines which hopefully has generated interest for those who wanted to start making money online using their blogs. More »

June 25th, 2009 | 1 Comment | Posted in Home & Furniture, Search Engine Marketing, SEO

I like this site review session by Matt Cutts himself during the Google I/O which every webmaster out there must watch! Oh well, I turn out to be one of those guys who is so OC when it comes to UIs and other technical details on how sites should be. Okay I need not explain that much as the video itself pretty well discusses a lot! So for those SEM Philippines practitioners and webmasters, happy watching!

Microsoft Bing – The Future of Search?

May 30th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Search Engine Marketing

Admittedly, I am not a fan of Microsoft especially when it comes to scalability and realibility (not to mention the $$$ they snatch away from Microsoft dependent companies).

So why I am talking about Microsoft now? Maybe you have heard of Kumo which has been long awaited by many search engine marketers like me since Bill and his marketing smarts say that it is the best search engine so far that can match Google (I doubt).  But since it has taken them too long (huhum), they renamed it as “BING“.  Why BING? I dunno. :P

Anyways, this Microsoft Bing search engine would definitely have yet to earn its respect from most of us especially on Search Engine Marketing (SEM) practitioners.

Personally, the MSN search engine did not live to my expectations  because of its lame functionality. It is just that it made it as one of the top 3 SEs simply of the Microsoft saucy marketing strategy but without, it is nothing.

I am sorry for those Microsoft fans out there. This is just my personal opinion.
