Choose the perfect rug based on design and material
How can you decide which rug is best for your home? Among the various rug purchase decision variables like design, material, size, and shape, how can you decide which ones perfectly addresses your needs?
In choosing the appropriate rug style for your home, you should first be familiar with the overall design theme of your house and the unique looks of the individual rooms where you want to place your rugs; the rug pattern and design should of course go with or complement the colors of your walls, floors, and ceilings. You should also realize that different rug colors can have different effects: for example, light colored rugs tend to lend a more festive and easy going atmosphere to a room, while darker shades can add more appeal and class but also tend to absorb more heat from light.
The type of material of the rug will also play a critical role in your purchase decision. Modern area rugs are mostly made of natural fibers like cotton and wool, or synthetic materials like nylon, polyester, or olefin. Each material has its own distinct set of advantages and disadvantages. For example, cotton rugs are usually very soft but also tend to absorb more moisture. Wool rugs have the advantage of being dirt resistant because they do not attract dirt and dust much. Nylon rugs are also resistant to moisture rich dirt like soil and are waterproof; because the fibers are nonporous and smooth, they can also be cleaned more easily. Finally, cheap rugs that are often made of olefin or polypropylene rugs are highly durable and can withstand more wear and tear; these types are thus most often used for outdoor rugs and carpets.
Just remember that to keep all of these considerations in mind when deciding which rugs to purchase.
